National Grid Electricity Transmission is reinforcing the electricity transmission network between Bramford substation in Suffolk and Twinstead Tee in Essex through the construction of a new overhead line and underground cable route. The Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement forms part of the Great Grid Upgrade – scaling up the grid and updating our network so that we can meet future demand, boost energy security and help the nation become more self-sufficient.
As we prepare for the start of main construction activity along the project route, we need to deliver aggregate and welfare cabins to the main site construction compound near Leavenheath in preparation for construction. To ensure the safety of the team while materials are being moved onto the site, traffic management measures will be in place from 09:30 to 15:00 on 9, 10 and 13 June 2025. This work is being carried out by Balfour Beatty, on behalf of National Grid.
During this period, temporary two-way traffic signals will be in operation on a section of the A134 between the B1068 and Marshalls Green junctions, to ensure that the northbound side of the road can be closed.
For more information, we have attached a map of the traffic management arrangements.
We know our work may cause some disruption to journeys and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused. We will be working closely with our contractor Balfour Beatty to keep traffic moving as best we can and to complete our work as quickly as possible.
Should any work be delayed or take longer than planned due to factors outside our control such as adverse weather, updates will be shared on the project webpage at nationalgrid.com/bramford-twinstead
Thank you for your patience while the works take place. Construction of the main construction compound is expected to start at the end of June, and we will share more information over the next few weeks.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
